The 1st European Steel Technology & Application Days (ESTAD) took place with
the 31st Journées Sidérurgiques Internationales (JSI).

The JSI conference, previously known as the "ATS Steelmaking Days" or "Journées ATS", has been organized since 1980 in Paris by the French Steel Federation (FFA). The 31st Journées Sidérurgiques Internationales were held on 7 and 8 April at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris. To ensure a leading European technical conference for the Steel industry, ASMET, FFA, Steel Institute VDEh and Jernkontoret have organised a new event called European Steel Technology & Application Days (ESTAD) which also includes topics on the steel products and their application. The 1st ESTAD were held on the occasion of the 31st JSI. This new event is destined to follow the French JSI at the European level. It will be organized in turn by each of the above bodies and possibly other steel associations.

About 500 delegates (steelmakers, steel users, suppliers, researchers, journalists) came from about thirty countries, not only from Europe but also from Asia, Middle East, North & South America and even Australia to attend ESTAD-JSI 2014.

The two-day conference was opened by a plenary session chaired by Philippe DARMAYAN, president of the FFA, and Christophe LEROUGE representing Arnaud MONTEBOURG, the French Ministre du Redressement Productif. The presentations focused on the issues and the technical, economic and environmental challenges of the European steel industry.

The technical programme included 165 presentations in 6 parallel sessions. The topics covered all steel industry processes, as well as safety, environment and energy, and steel uses.

This event also provided an opportunity for about thirty suppliers to showcase their products and services in two exhibition rooms. List of exhibitors and sponsors on the right hand side (click on logo to access the corresponding web site) -->

The second ESTAD will be held on the occasion of METEC in June 2015 in Düsseldorf. More info

The organizers wish to express their warmest thanks to all the people who took part in the organization of ESTAD-JSI 2014: members of the programme committee, sponsors, exhibitors, authors, speakers, chairpersons, staff from Maison de la Chimie, SPAT, ASMET, FFA, Jernkontoret, VDEh, and volunteers. Thanks to their commitment, the conference went trouble-free and we get very positive feedback from the attendees.
